cine-ma is also my MA. I just love watching movies. not because i have to write about it..In fact, I dont write on films everytime and hardly write film reviews. I write on many colors and current events of life and took reference points from movies like books. As i love it and my audience too. i am still excited about watching films n always find time for that from my busy busy schedule.
Last year just for fun randomly made a note on FB titled “JVmovie awards” to laugh at various glamorous film awards which are more of an entertainment show than actual deserving awards. Many a times only some peculiar films get entry into it. have you ever seen films like “yeh saali jindgi” or “sankat city” sweeping them? NO! but certain star-studded films wipe everything else every year. its not all of them are not worthy. but it certainly lacks genuine range. Makers like bhatts or varmas are never mentioned as they are not in tune with this tamasha.
Even oscars (though all nominations there carry a bare minimum quality) are not holier than thou in this context. films like ‘dark night’, ‘avatar’, ‘dolphin’s tale’, ‘eternal sunshine of a spotless mind’ or ‘district 9’ never got its real due at oscars. as it was predicted in my recent blogpost, ‘the artist’ sweeped major oscars and deserves full appreciation as a beautiful soul stirring love story all over. Though honestly barring its fabulously different and imaginative treatment which is way ahead, if you observe the core elements, it has striking similarities with our own ‘dirty picture’ released in same year! but human mind love to compare and declare a winner. it’s fun, its motivation.
This list below is entirely personal and for fun. but it’s not silly. I have seen almost 95% released films in theatre by paying tickets from my hard earned money. I carry some sense of understanding while entering into it and its not mere timepass for me. so i made an entirely personal list but with professional care. i agree, your choices may have been different than mine. its fine. You make your list. it’s really interesting to revisit moments moviemagic in this way..isn’t it?
with this list presented in award format, i don’t claim any superiority complex to judge bollywood. It’s not even a daydream to fantasize such awards run by me. it’s just…umm, what films gives us – entertainment, education, excitement with some cherished moments of life. be it a soliloquy from ‘pyaar ka punchnama’ or moving camera in streets in ‘that girl in yellow boots’ or sensuous oomph of a female protagonist in ‘bheendi bazaar inc’ or cold stare from nana patekar in ‘shageerd’ or a haunting musical track run in background of ‘dhobighat’ or ramanian ‘inspired’ melody in ‘teri meri prem kahani’… it’s really a love story wth silver screen… Like bathing in rays of light in darkness of hall. its a dish prepared with my choice, taste it if you like..
